Bringing your own special skills forefront helps your business be the Purple Cow !
Over the past month i’ve read a number of books as part of my investment in me to ensure I stay at the top of my game. One of these books was The Purple Cow by Seth Godin, which highlights that either you are a Purple Cow or you’re not. You’re either remarkable or invisible. Make your choice and I have to say it resonated strongly with me… especially in the current environment.
By identifying the skills and energy you bring to the table, and choosing how to use them wisely, can see you impact every conversation and influence the direction of the discussion. It doesn’t take an alpha person to dominate a meeting… it can be directed by asking the right questions and being clear on the outcomes you want. The skill to do this will help you show the value you bring.
To bring your own skills to the forefront of what you are doing, will take courage and commitment… but the feeling you will get is totally worth it. To build your brand, here are a couple of tips to help:
-
Let others see your strengths – we develop special skills that add to our value and set us apart from the pack. Having a team with diversified skill sets ensures we are offering even more opportunities for our clients… so play to your strengths and make time to build your skills;
-
Be prepared to manage upwards – the business owner, the team leaders and those in management positions don’t have all the answers and don’t have all the skills. Empower your teams to share their skills and bring innovation to your team’s work flow. Taking control of the meeting, client discussions and team direction will free up the leader to do higher level work;
-
Be comfortable being you – to be the Purple Cow you have to do things differently, be prepared to do things that stand out for the right reasons, and do them in your way. Being known for a particular thing, a skill you always bring, will have people remembering you and referring you to those in their circles.
Now is a perfect time to develop your unique selling proposition and what you bring to the table that is different. Think about what you want this to be, identify how you will always include it in your work and get on letting others see the value they will get when working with you.
Forward this to those who you think will benefit from our tips each Monday morning. We’d love to help quality owners and leaders create momentum and feel like they are empowered to make a difference. With the advent of the Zoom platform, we now can work with businesses all over the world.
Stay safe, keep looking forward and be the leader today !!
Cheers
