Good Management
“Leadership contains certain elements of good management, but it requires that you inspire, that you build durable trust. For an organisation to be not just good but to win, leadership means evoking participation larger than the job description, commitment deeper than any job contract’s wording”. Stanley A. McChrystal
As a nation, Australians have built a reputation of being authentic, open, honest and easy to get along with. Some would say this is built on a trust that we “Say what we will do and then do what we say”. Having travelled around the world it has been common to be selected for activities based on others knowing the work ethic they would get from an Australian.
So how do we build this trust in those around us? In our everyday dealings with co-workers, clients, family, suppliers our success is based on giving certainty and building trust. If others trust you and your product, be it physical or a service you offer, they will “buy” as they see the value you add to them. Help them and they will see you are rewarded.
Here are 3 tips you can use to help build trust with those around you:
-
Be Authentic – when we meet people who are genuine and true, we naturally allow ourselves to be at ease with them. Consistently being that same person will allow others to know who they are dealing with and what they can expect.
-
Listen – most of us spend too much time trying to formulate a response or solve a problem when others are talking to us. Truly listening to the other person will give you exactly what their challenges are and you can then show how you can help them solve these.
-
Show them – consistently showing the standards you set and expect, your attitude, your ability to listen, your delivery of a quality service that solves the challenges of others, will have others seeking you out to help them. Get consistent and the results will show.
So this week, consider how your standards and methods are impacting the results you are getting from those around you. Do you have that trust, do you have those around you seeking you out because they know you will deliver?
Please forward to those in your networks who will also get value from our regular tips. If you feel you would like to add to the value you are currently adding, please send us a note at strategy@mentorisgroup.com.au and we’d love to chat about how we can help you consistently deliver.
Have an awesome week!
