“The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don’t have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it”. Chris Pine
Over the past week there’s been a lot happening. From running coaching workshops, helping others create change in their businesses, being there for others when they are under pressure from things they can’t control… it’s been challenging and time consuming. And to be totally honest, at times I’ve found myself getting wrapped up in the busyness and looking at ALL the things going on. Have you experienced this… it’s truly frustrating!
What has helped me has been getting perspective on those things that are true priorities. Looking at each day and the week and getting clear on what matters the most, helps me see what my priorities are and what will come first to achieve the result targets we set ourselves.
3 Tips for getting Perspective
Here are my three tips for you today:
Use the 4 D’s – list everything on your plate at the moment and apply the following to each item…Do, Delegate, Delete or Delay. Using these, you will either get them off your plate now (Do, Delegate, Delete) or in the diary (Delay = get it in the diary)
What really matters – we tend to build up a list of “stuff” that we think we need to do. When you step back and look at that list, how much of that do we really have to do? Get clear on how this “stuff” will help you reach your goals and set priorities.
Focus Focus Focus – once you’ve applied the 4 D’s, set yourself targets to complete the tasks that remain. The steps to make them happen then become your focus and the action you take is geared towards making them happen.
So now knowing this, schedule time in to your calendar to apply the 4 D’s, prioritise what you will do and get taking action.
Feel free to hit the “forward to friends” link up top and let those in your networks see how they can do this for themselves.

Have an awesome week and keep raising the bar!
In this week’s video we give you an insight in to how you can own the times when you feel overwhelmed.
During the week I had two specific conversations where successful professionals found themselves feeling like they had too much going on and couldn’t handle everything they expected to get done. With everything they had going on, it was clear how they could feel that way. Now was the time for them see how to own being overwhelmed.
We all at some time feel overwhelmed. The trick is to find a way to reset quickly, so you can recover and get back to what you need to do. Here are a couple of tips to help you reset and create momentum again:
A little perspective – step back, take a deep breath, walk around the block looking at everything that is going on outside and then ask yourself… is it me who is causing this and what will I change?
Small steps v Whole Process – by trying to focus on everything that needs to be done at once, you are similar to a gymnast thinking about their dismount while they are lining up for a tumbling sequence… look at smaller chunks of activity to get you making progress
Control – by adding some structure to your days, you will take control of what you have going on and will see opportunities to prioritise, defer and delegate.
This week, when you feel like things might be getting on top of you, take a step back and implement the above tips where appropriate.
If you are searching for more ways to own your overwhelm then let me know as would love to help you smash it out of the park.
Have an awesome week !
In this week’s video I am using your feedback as an example of something we can adopt in our days to get better results. When getting your feedback, something I had no control over, I had a choice to make. To either see the feedback as criticism and react accordingly. Or embrace the feedback and use it to improve the quality of the information I was presenting.
In this instance your feedback was something outside of my control. My reaction however, was within my control and very much determined the options and results possible.
So this week, when events happen that are outside of your control, consider what outcome you want from the situation and choose to react in a way that will get you closer to that outcome. After all… it’s your choice how you react !
