You are on the road to Where?
During this past month, I had the opportunity to present to a group of legal professionals and business owners. I spoke to them around the question of You are on the road to Where?
The key to this statement lays in what your version of “Where” is. So many people set off on their journey, madly taking action without clarity on what their ‘where’ is or what it looks like. It's pretty hard to recognise when you've made it when you don’t really know where you’re going.
Here are four tips to help you get to your ‘where’:
- Get clear on your outcome (where you want to go) – have a clear view on where you are heading to and what it will look like when you get there. It makes it much easier to set up a plan to get there. Feel the sensation of standing on the top of a mountain taking in the view and then work out how to make it happen
- Tie in to your purpose – keep focusing on the value you add to others and why you do what you do. This helps ensure you’re able to continue on your path when challenges arise
- Take structured action – set your targets, regularly check in on how you are going and look at where you need to change as you go along. This will ensure you keep the momentum going and on the path to getting your outcomes
- People matter – surrounding yourself with quality people who also want to help you. Friends, family, staff, advisors, customers, teachers, mentors - these are all people who want to see you succeed so include them.
This week, pick an area of your life - professional or personal - and get clear on where you would like to be. Once you’ve done that, apply step 2 to 4 and set a clear plan on achieving the outcome you want.
