Self Awareness is the New Strength
Over the past month I've had many conversations with people wishing the Christmas break was here already. Is it a craving for cake, ham off the bone or an afternoon nap post the turkey feast that's driving this... possibly, yet more commonly it's recognising it has been a challenging year and it's time for a break.
In most instances, there was a recognition the year had seen them focussing on ensuring those around them were having their needs met.....but at what cost? Long hours, sacrificing 'own' time, the putting up with less productive people all contribute to frustration, distraction and less time to invest in yourself.
What does this have to do with Self Awareness? When we understand and recognise what matters most - we can then set our standards and expectations based on what's going to make us happy. This way we're setting ourselves up to at least enjoy what we choose to do and not spending time and energy on areas not helping us on our journey.
So how do we become Self Aware? Here's my top 3 tips:
1. Who do you want to be? We all have that person we want to be - the one that gives us a real buzz when we realise we are living true to that person. It's very easy to lose sight of who this is when we are being the hamster on the wheel.... so make time to reconnect with this person.
2. Why do you do what you do? If you are tight with your reasons for doing what you do, whether like me it's a burning desire to help people get clear on their direction, you will lessen the peaks and troughs on the rollercoaster journey you are on.
3. Start being that person you want to be! Once you are connected with you and why you do what you do, then it's time now to get on with creating your own journey on your terms.... and bring on the great times!
This week, take 20 mins to consider these tips and where you are. Are you being that person you want to be or are you choosing to be someone you don't necessarily want to be just to make others happy. We have a choice to be our own person... time to make that choice!
Bring on this week and let's remember to "Inspire, Motivate and have Fun".
