The Dream Thief
“The habit of always putting off an experience until you can afford it, or until the time is right, or until you know how to do it is one of the greatest burglars of joy. Be deliberate, but once you’ve made up your mind... jump in.” Charles R. Swindoll
In the time it has taken me to write this piece I could have put on a load of washing, watched a couple of episodes of Suits, watched an hour of YouTube or cleaned the office..... all these would definitely be time fillers and somewhat enjoyable activities. Yet they would all be taking the easy option, delaying the inevitable need to produce this article by a deadline.
Procrastination is something that happens to us all, causing a lack of success, frustration, overwhelm and creating the perception of not having enough time. By putting off certain activities, whether through fear of getting an unfavourable result, not being able to do the activity or not knowing what's expected... we delay the potential for us to get a favourable result and that sense of achievement.
3 Tips to beating Procrastination
Here are three tips:
- Don't wait to be perfect - putting things off until you have all your ducks in a row and everything perfectly done will mean you will never start. Jump in and be ok with making a mess to start with... you will learn from this
- Creating Momentum - we can have all the potential and desire in the world, yet to create a turning wheel we must first start pushing. Take action to start the journey and change course when you need to
- Dreams don't create themselves - putting off making that decision, creating that change, doing that thing isn't solving things.... it's simply deferring the activity and a chance to realise your dreams.
So using these tips, how will you now structure your week to get even better results and outcomes? Now is your time to use these tips and make your dreams come true.
