Strength in Numbers
"Whether we're talking about leadership, teamwork, or client service, there is no more powerful attribute than the ability to be genuinely honest about one's weaknesses, mistakes, and needs for help."
For most of my life I've had the privilege of being involved in team sport. From a very young age, growing up in a small country town meant we were somewhat forced to be part of teams to make up the numbers. And for this opportunity, I am extremely grateful as it taught me the importance of teamwork, working together, honesty and the strength of a group. I heard the great Queenslander Billy Moore once say "Fingers are weak, but a fist is strong."
We are all part of teams, whether we see it or not. Our sporting pursuits, our family, our career or our own business... we are all impacted by the effectiveness of the team we have around us. Our interactions with advisors, mentors, clients, employees all impact the results we get. I'm very fortunate to have chosen wisely and have an awesome group of people around me.
So how can you get more out of your "team"? Here are 3 tips:
Who's on your team - recognising all of the people who impact you, how they influence you and the results you are getting is key. Choose carefully and make sure you have quality people in your corner.
Honesty & Integrity - being open, honest and acting with Integrity around those close to you provides strength... the strength to know that we can openly share our concerns and that they will be there for us no matter what. "You are never alone" is the ultimate comfort.
Know, Like & Trust - this is earned and not an entitlement. Over time, by investing in those around us we build up a team who are prepared to back us regardless. This gives us strength to take on opportunities knowing we are supported when we do.
This week, think about the teams you have around you and the results you are currently getting. Do your people challenge you, back you up, pump up your tyres and work with you to get even better results? If not maybe there are some conversations that need to be had.
Feel empowered to forward this on to those in your networks who will get value from our regular sharing. If you want help to have these conversations, send a note to the email below and we will help facilitate this.
Have an awesome week!
