purpose

I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy”
Og Mandino

We do things for a reason… take on more responsibility, help others grow, volunteer to help those in need. Find what matters to you and make it a priority!

Strategic planning is about tying what you do currently to what you love to do. Why then do we work long hours, start businesses and take on responsibility when this is what it involves. These things are all helping us achieve what it is we ultimately want… whether it be flexibility, more personal growth, more family time or an ability to provide security for those you care about.

So how do tie to our purpose through strategic planning ? Here are some tips that have worked for our clients:

  • CHANGE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT THINGS – when you become frustrated with something or someone, consider the situation from another perspective… theirs perhaps? I find this helps in strategic planning sessions, where there is frustration yet it’s only from the perspective of the business owner or leader. Changing your perspective may give it a different context.

  • ORGANISE TO MAKE THINGS EASY AND SIMPLE – when things are over complicated and cumbersome, we can tend to put them off until they become absolutely necessary. This means they stay on the “to do list” and get shuffled around like peas on a child’s plate. Make the tasks simple and smaller and you will attack them.

  • REMEMBER WHY YOU CARE – you’ve generally chosen to be in the situation you are in. The career, the business, the collaboration is the thing that provides you the opportunity to do more of what you love… hang out with family, take trips away, eat well. Remembering why you choose to take action and be the best version of you will help you stay true to your Purpose!

Losing sight of why you do what you do is common. Staying true to it, and seeing situations in the light of the above tips, will help you keep on your path and be able to navigate those times when things get a little unclear.

Forward this on to those in your networks so they too can get value from our regular tips. If you would like to be that leader who sets their standard at levels others will follow, send us a note at strategy@mentorisgroup.com.au and let’s chat about how we can add value.

Have an awesome week!
