Transition like a Boss
Learn from those who transition successfully…
“A lot of people resist transition and therefore never allow themselves to enjoy who they are. Embrace the change, no matter what it is; once you do, you can learn about the new world you’re in and take advantage of it.” Nikki Giovanni
Being part of the team means you are one of them… standing shoulder to shoulder with those who are on the field putting in the effort to get the results. The results of your effort are immediately recognised based on getting an outcome. For some this becomes a “comfort zone” and one that is highly familiar.
When you transition from being “In” the team to either “leading” the team or working On the business, it requires a whole new set of skills and ways of being. The validation of your effort takes longer to come and may not come directly to you… rather to your team. This can be challenging when you are wanting this validation to maintain your standards.
Here are 3 tips to help you manage the the transition period:
-
Take a Long Term perspective – transition is never easy when you focus on the change that’s required now. Look past the current change and see what it will be like when you’re effectively delegating work and doing more of the stuff you want to do
-
Focus on developing others – others will never do the work as well as you do… that always seems to be the case. Yet by investing time in to those around you, their ability to take work off you will free you up to do those things that will add even more value
-
Use other’s results as your validation – seeing others succeed due to the work you have put in to them is an ultimate reward for your effort. Focus on validating the team’s success and that comes back at you… “A team is a reflection of the Leaders it has”.
This week, check in on how you are managing any transition periods you are currently going through, whether it be at work or outside. Apply the tips above and see how it allows you to be the person you need to be.
Feel empowered to forward on to those in your networks who will also get value from our regular tips. If you want to build your capacity to delegate, send us a note at strategy@ mentorisgroup.com.au and we’d love to chat about how we can help.
Have an awesome week!
Cheers
