Influence as a leader in business

“Reactive people… are often affected by their physical environment. They find external sources to blame for their behavior.”  Stephen Covey

When things are whirling around you, it’s easy to get caught up in the mayhem and hysteria. By looking at your space and those things that you can control, will allow you to take ownership of things you can influence.

This past week has seen quality business owners starting to question their ability to run their business as “usual”. The uncertainty that has entered our society, both in business and personal arenas, has bought with it a wave of speculation and change. Some of this is totally out of our control, other areas we can control and influence.

Business Strategy

So where do we focus to get the best results over the next 3 – 6 months ? Here are some tips to help:

  • Deal with the facts  – there is going to be a LOT of information coming out that will be changing regularly. Speak to an adviser or get your information directly from official sources. Each of us will be impacted in different ways… so ensure you are aware of your situation

  • Communicate often – team members respect leaders who are open and honest in times of uncertainty. It may be challenging as the news may not be stellar, but hearing what’s happening from a leader is better than having teams making assumptions about what’s happening.

  • What can you control and Influence – watching the commercial news channels this morning, it was filled with things that we had no control over. Focusing on these things will lead to frustration… as we can’t change them. Move your focus to those things you can influence, like your business, your career, your access to support… and go to work in these areas.

This week, choose to focus on those things you can control and influence. Look for opportunities to add certainty to those in your circles. Collectively, we can help ensure teams stay well informed and we show that leadership they need.

Forward this on to those who need this right now. Please get in contact if you need a sounding board for your current situation… we would love to help add value where we can.

Stay safe and keep looking forward !

Cheers
